What Each Technology Is

Baghouse

A baghouse is a dry filtration system. Dust-laden air passes through fabric filter bags, which trap particulates on the surface while allowing clean air to pass through. Collected dust is periodically removed through pulse-jet or mechanical shaking cleaning cycles.

Scrubber

A scrubber is a wet treatment system. Polluted gas is brought into contact with a liquid, usually water or a chemical solution, which absorbs particulates and dissolves soluble gaseous pollutants such as acid gases before the treated air is released.

In short: a baghouse filters dry particulates out of an airstream, while a scrubber uses liquid absorption to remove both particulates and soluble gases. This core difference shapes almost every other point of comparison below.
